Selenium and Peavey form joint venture in Brazil

U.S.-based Peavey Electronics Corporation, one of the largest professional audio product and musical instrument manufacturers in the world, and Selenium Electronics, leader in the loudspeaker market in Brazil and South America, have formed a joint venture in Brazil - Peavey do Brasil LTDA. The major goal of Peavey do Brazil is to manufacture and sell products in Brazil's professional audio and musical instrument market.

PEAVEY ELECTRONICS CORPORATION, founded in 1965 by Hartley Peavey, has 35 plants and facilities all over the world, most of which are located in the United States. Peavey Electronics Corporation currently employs almost 2,000 employees and has annual sales among the largest in the pro audio industry. It has one of the largest lines of products in the professional audio market, offering well over 2,000 products. Peavey Electronics Corporation produces and sells mixers, consoles, powered mixers, power amplifiers, enclosures, powered enclosures, microphones, instrument amplifiers for electric and acoustic guitars, bass and keyboards, in addition to musical instruments such as guitars, bass, MIDI controllers and acoustic drums. Its products are currently distributed to over 134 countries.

Selenium is a Brazilian company founded in 1958 and is located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and employs over 400 people. It manufactures and sells different types of loudspeakers in the automotive, professional and residential lines. The Brazilian company is known in the market of professional loudspeakers as one of the most advanced companies in the world. In addition to the professional market, it supplies products to General Motors and Toyota, Land Rover and has been approved by Renault and Volkswagen. Selenium, which has a subsidiary in the USA, a distribution center in Switzerland and a sales office in Germany, currently exports its products to 43 countries. "The company is about to conclude a large modernization program, which has placed it among the most modern and efficient loudspeaker manufacturers in the world," states Vladimir de Souza, Selenium CEO. Vladimir has coordinated the negotiation for the Brazilian partner and will be the Selenium representative on the Peavey do Brazil Board of Directors.

PEAVEY DO BRASIL LTDA, the new joint venture, will sell imported Peavey products and also manufacture products in Brazil. Two plants will be installed. The first one, which will be open this year, will be located in Barueri, São Paulo. The location of the second plant depends on the conclusion of studies due in the very near future.
The goal of Peavey do Brasil is to offer high performance and excellent quality professional audio systems. The Brazilian joint venture will be run by director Gilberto Canto (former Phillips executive) who will report to a Board of Directors by Peavey Electronics and Selenium.
Partners in the new joint venture want to make it clear that neither company is being bought by the other. Both companies maintain their own separate businesses and identities, and their administration will not undergo any changes. Each partner owns 50 percent of the joint venture.
